Prenatal Yoga
Prenatal yoga works within the body’s guidelines, which is why many mothers-to-be find it to be the perfect exercise to continue through pregnancy. The fluid asanas are designed to respect any limitations while still maximizing the many benefits of the practice.
The deep breathing during yoga poses calms the mind and spirit. Experiencing this relaxed state will ease each transition of pregnancy. Additionally, understanding how to use breath to manage pain, tension and stress will be helpful during labor and childbirth.
There’s also the general oneness and connectivity that yoga provides. Many expectant mothers report a heightened awareness not only of their bodies, but also of their babies, when practicing yoga.
Postnatal Yoga
Postnatal yoga is a great way to support the body's recovery after birth including these benefits.
It is a good idea to wait for about 4 to 6 weeks after the delivery of your baby before attending class. If you had a caesarian delivery this time should be extended to about 8 to 10 weeks, or until you feel ready or consult with your physician.
Mum & Baby Yoga
Mum & Baby yoga classes provide an opportunity for you to regain strength and flexibility while bonding with your baby in an enjoyable activity. Mums can practice in their homes or can form their own groups at their most convenient location around their schedule. Baby yoga includes flowing postures, holding, movement, touch, voice and relaxation offering these benefits.
The class focuses on warm-ups and yoga postures designed specifically for the new mum. Special attention is placed on developing correct alignment to combat the stress on the body and back caused by poor posture during the feeding, lifting and carrying of your baby. The babies are treated to a session of gentle baby poses and massage along with music and rhymes, and are integral to postnatal postures with mum. The class is tailored to the needs of the new mum and baby. Once babies start crawling they can transition to SMART Toddler Yoga.
SMART Toddler Yoga
This class is continuation of the baby yoga approach for mobile babies, toddlers and pre-school children up to the age of 4years. Using songs and rhymes alongside plenty of movement, the class provides these benefits.
The strength of both our Mum and Baby Yoga and SMART Toddler Yoga is that our training draws from upon a solid multi-disciplinary foundation, including Yoga, Midwifery, Education, Music, Drama and Dance, Montessori and Early Years Teaching, Child Development, Baby Massage, Anthropology and Holistic Therapies. After five years of age, children can transition to Kids Yoga.
